Cân y Drudwy Song Sessions
Our latest community project is funded by Tŷ Cerdd’s Cronfa Tradd, in partnership with Menter Iaith Merthyr Tudful and Theatr Soar. The Cân y Drudwy project offers people the opportunity to learn Welsh folk songs in a fun and informal atmosphere at Canolfan a Theatr Soar Soar. The song sessions are suitable for Welsh speakers of all levels, including learners and fluent speakers. An hour-and-a-half session will be held twice a month on Saturday mornings, led by experienced folk music tutors - musicians, and singers. The songs will be relatively simple for everyone to learn, allowing the group to enjoy singing together. Gorau canu cyd-ganu’ - the best singing is singing together!
Why Cân y Drudwy? Starlings are very social birds, spending a lot of their time together in flocks. They are fantastic singers and mimics and can learn complex sounds and songs. The starling also has powerful folk symbolism, with roots in the Mabinogi as Drudwy Brânwen - Brânwen’s Starlings.
