Community Project

In 2011, Trac Cymru ran a large-scale community project called Bore Glas. It contained multiple sub-projects that collectively set out to increase engagement and inspire innovation with Welsh traditional arts, and connect people with one another and their local heritage. Below, you can find the 4 branches of Bore Glas!

• Handing it On

  • Tradiators’ Days - Bringing folk activists together to meet, network and learn from each other.

  • Artistic Workshops - Musician, presenter & author Sioned Webb delivering tune arrangement workshops.

  • Tutor Training - Peer-to-peer learning for tutors.

• Promoting The Tradition

  Trac Cymru attended showcase events FAI & WOMEX, spreading the word of our traditional arts, and delivered Tŷ Gwerin, the National Eisteddfod’s dedicated folk venue.

• Canu Yn Y Cof

  Internationally renowned traditional singer Siân James was commissioned to work within her local area of North Powys, researching hitherto unknown collections of songs held by people in the area. 

• Getting Stuck In

  • O Wela Ni’n Dyfod - An early stage development project of the Flat Pack Mari Lwyd, working with existing and new Mari groups to raise awareness and participation in one of our oldest unique customs. You can read more about it here.

  • Sesiwn Yng Nghymru - Bringing professional musicians to run tune clubs and develop material. One such musician and Tune Club founder is the dynamic fiddler Helen Adam. Trac asked Helen to be the coordinator of 10 open workshops across South West Wales, including a pub in her local town of Llandeilo, which then developed into a regular Tune Club.
